The bulk of Helen’s professional experience has been working in documentaries and current affairs as a producer/director for the BBC. She joined the BBC as a secretary for the Presentation Department and worked her way into production as a production secretary, then researcher, Assistant Producer, Producer/Director and Series Director. Helen worked on a variety of half hour current affairs and documentary films, short films for discussion programmes and outside broadcasts, notably Children in Need, the BBC’s landmark wildlife series in conjunction with the Open University - ‘The Nature of Britain’ and latterly for Inside Out (London). Helen is particularly interested in politics and the media - the impact of ‘spin’ upon political communication and the democratic process.
